This Privacy Policy describes how Link Cleaner (the “Extension”) handles information when you use it. We believe in transparency and minimal data collection — this document explains precisely what we handle, why we handle it, and the choices available to you.
Link Cleaner is designed with privacy as a foundational principle. The Extension does not require you to create an account, does not sell personal information, and does not share your information with third parties for advertising purposes.
We collect only what is necessary to provide the features you request, and we retain it only for as long as needed to deliver those features.
Depending on how you use the Extension, the following categories may be involved:
| Category | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| URLs you choose to clean | To display, process, and generate a cleaned version for you to copy | Retained only if you save the result to your history |
| Cleaning history | To provide quick access to your recently cleaned links | Up to 100 entries; you may clear it at any time |
| Preferences | To remember your selected settings and appearance | Retained until you modify or reset them |
| Aggregated statistics | To display summary counts, such as weekly totals, within the Extension | Aggregated numerical counts only |
When you request to clean a URL, the Extension processes the address within your browser to remove known tracking and affiliate parameters and to present a normalized version suitable for sharing.
When you choose to clean a shortened URL (for example, t.co, bit.ly, or amzn.to), the Extension resolves the destination address to present the cleaned final URL. This resolution is performed only after you explicitly request it.
When you choose to generate a QR code for a cleaned link, the cleaned URL is transmitted to a third-party QR image service for the sole purpose of creating the image. This transmission occurs only when you open the QR view.
The Extension requests the following browser permissions to provide its functionality. Each permission is used only for its stated purpose:
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
activeTab | Access the address of the active tab when you invoke the Extension |
storage | Save your history and preferences so they persist between sessions |
contextMenus | Provide “Copy Clean Link” and related options in your right-click menu |
clipboardWrite / clipboardRead | Copy cleaned results to your clipboard and assist with reliable copying |
scripting | Support accurate link detection and the Scan Page feature |
host_permissions (<all_urls>) | Allow the Extension to operate across the websites you visit when you use it |
We implement reasonable administrative and technical measures designed to protect information handled by the Extension. However, no method of transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure. We encourage you to keep your browser and operating system up to date.
The Extension is a general-purpose browser tool and is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can address the matter.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the Extension, legal requirements, or our practices. When we do, we will revise the “Last Updated” date above and, where appropriate, note material changes in the Chrome Web Store listing. Continued use of the Extension after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
